10.30am Supporting Schools in Newcastle to Support those affected by Emotionally Based School Non Attendance: A Local Authority Approach - Jenny Vecsey & Becci Best

This session will explore psychological frameworks underpinning the understanding of and support systems for children and young people experiencing emotionally based school non-attendance (EBSNA). We will share our experiences of introducing a psychologically-informed, authority-wide approach to support schools and services in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and consider next steps on this journey.

11.30am Using therapeutic principles in everyday conversations - Dr Andrew Scott

This session is designed to explore how some of the therapeutic principles associated with formal therapeutic input can be incorporated into everyday conversations with those who see the young person most and have the closest working relationship with them.  

Some of the key therapeutic principles that are explored will be from: 

  • motivational interviewing,
  • solution oriented psychology,
  • humanistic psychology,
  • narrative psychology.
1pm Creating a developmentally informed, trauma aware, nurture approach, to support children and young people’s positive mental health outcomes in schools - Alison Grimshaw

Alison Grimshaw works for Nurture International managing a team of clinical psychologists to focus on supporting learners who had experienced early developmental trauma. Alison has been a distance education tutor at Birmingham University, and is the author of Family SEAL .

10.40am Improving wellbeing through Interactive play to support mental health and learning - Pravin Jethwa

Pravin will discuss how interactive software has been proven to help pupils and students of all ages and abilities to improve their wellbeing and relieve mental stress and anxiety by providing sensory, educational and exercise based activities. These activities work to support mental health in a safe and fun environment. 

The ISW and ISF system that Pravin uses has been an integral part in many SEN based schools and centres, providing the many benefits associated with good mental health, from managing stress, improving their mood & confidence, as well as maintaining physical health through fun based activities.

 Pravin and Amazing interactives are committed to continuing to develop new interactive software which supports SEN and mental health, making it affordable and easy to set up and use in any setting/classroom or hall.

11.40am 6 Cornerstones of Positive Wellbeing & Mental Health in Education - James Auton

A proactive workshop developing strategies to improve wellbeing for young people. At Nudge, our interventions centre on 6 cornerstones, which supports young people in a transition back to education or the world of work, #ForALifeWorthLiving.

1.10pm Working with' not 'fighting against' wellbeing needs - Claire Cannon

Claire’s immersive workshop helps you experience the seven types of rest and gives you a chance to reflect on how your awareness of these will help translate into pupil wellbeing.

2.10pm Pursuing the Power of Nature in Wellbeing - Alexandra Foster & Robert Fisher

The workshop will take you through the Japanese techniques of forest bathing, including the peer reviewed and data driven results. Learn how implementing a structured nature intervention has a wide variety of mental and physical health benefits for all ages. We will use Q&A and group discussion to work out how this would look in your setting and anticipate any barriers to use.
