Providing a safe space through mentoringOver the past ten years, Richard has trained hundreds of mentors to work directly with children. In this session, Richard shares a few tried and tested activities to provide a safe space for children or young people to dicsuss their concerns.

Integrating Wellbeing Across a Packed CurriculumThe adage is correct; prevention is better than cure. The UK, indeed the world, is experiencing a wave of mental health challenges, particularly among the young, for numerous and well documented reasons. We are all familiar with the overload on services and as the children we teach grow, there is no long term solution in site. As part of the curriculum we offer young people, we need to be teaching them to be mentally literate and to have the skills to cope with what they face and be resilient to the future. Author of a forthcoming book on the topic, Richard will lead a workshop aimed at thinking more about the natural opportunities across the curriculum to promote mental health and wellbeing.

Assessing social and emotional skillsRichard talks through the use of the Social and Emotional Skills Assessment, a free measure of social and emotional skills acquisition.
