An online webinar from Nichola Taylor (West Berkshire Educational Psychology Service) exploring the effect of life experiences and trauma and how these can translate into the behaviours displayed by children and young people.
Nichola will look at the neuro sequential model and the suggested strategies for supporting these children and young people in schools. Trauma significantly impacts young people’s brain development, emotional regulation, and ability to learn and form relationships. It can manifest as anxiety, aggression, withdrawal, difficulty concentrating, and even physical symptoms. Schools are crucial in mitigating these effects by adopting a trauma-informed approach. This involves creating safe, predictable environments with consistent routines and clear expectations. Building trusting relationships with empathetic adults, teaching emotional regulation skills, and offering flexible learning strategies are key.
