Grace Richards

Psychology PhD student focused on mental health and wellbeing within secondary education at Birmingham City University.
Current Research on Mental Health in Secondary Education
Grace’s presentation outlines some of the key findings from her PhD studies. As part of her PhD, Grace has conducted retrospective interviews with adults about their mental health experiences at secondary school, worked with a current secondary school to evaluate their mental health interventions, and created and is implementing a new student resilience-building intervention. She hopes that it will be both interesting and valuable for staff to hear what research is being conducted in the secondary education mental health area.

Helping young people with mental health in SEN
During the talk, I will cover how the work of Maslow and Rogers when combined with good old fashioned behavioral observation can be used support young people’s mental health. Which, a dash of protective mental health approaches and the use of sensory processing approaches for good measure. We will look at how we can support those, who can’t access the talk-based therapies which so many people find so effective.
