Introduction to the Mental Health Lead Role Self-study

About the course

An online introduction to the role of the Mental Health Lead (or 1 day in-person). Suitable for someone who has not completed senior mental health leadership training. This course helps people understand the requirements of the role and some common tools to help fulfil these requirements.

Participants are required to submit a simple individual or setting action plan to gain certification (no additional work – this can be completed during the course).

How does self-study work?

Through this website you will be able to view pre-recorded trainer videos. Modules are split into 10-15 minute videos so that you can work through them with a cuppa at your own pace.

You are able to download the digital materials through the website and work through the workbook as you watch the videos and complete the activities set by the trainer.

What support will I get?

You are able to contact us at any time by phone or email to discuss content, ask questions. You are also entitled to a complimentary mentoring session to help you overcome any barriers you have with embedding the learning.

About the course contents

Online learners self-study 10-15 minute videos to work through the contents. You are set reflective and self-study activities by the tutor to facilitate the learning and are expected to work through these to complete the modules.

Modules:

  • Understanding the Role
  • Ethos and Culture
  • Leadership and Management
  • Pupil Voice
  • Parents, Carers and Community
  • Staff Support and Development
  • Mental Health Interventions
  • Targeted Approach
  • Curriculum, teaching and learning

Action plan

As learners work through the course, at the end of each module they are asked to reflect on any actions they need to do to fulfil the role in their setting and record these on an action plan. To gain their end of course certificate they send back their action plan.
